COURSE DESCRIPTION

NM Department of Public Safety
Law Enforcement Agency Course # NM170378

A 16-hour course that progressively builds participants’ skills from dealing with empty handed confrontations to dealing with weapons attacks. The goal is to provide the modern law enforcement with the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to survive a wide variety of real-world close quarter threat scenarios through use of the safest and most effective skills and tactics to control and disable both unarmed and armed assailants.

Two 8-hour sessions:

Dress: workout attire
Please bring: mouth guard, boxing or MMA gloves, groin protection, eye protection

COURSE CONTENT

1) Introductions and ground rules

a) Introduce Fred Sesler and students
b) Rules

2) Basic Striking and Falls

a) Basic boxing moves and hand strikes
b) Falls and returning to standing

3) Defense against lapel grabs

(1-hand grabs, 2-hand grabs, back against the wall variation)
a) Trapping/control of attacker’s hand/wrist/arm, wristlocks, strikes and takedowns
b) Protection against punches that may accompany the 1-hand grab

4) Defense against wrist grabs

(1-hand grabs [same side, crossed], 2-hand grabs, variations from the front, side and rear)
a) Trapping/control of attacker’s hand/wrist/arm, wristlocks, strikes and takedowns
b) Protection against punches that may accompany the 1-hand grab

5) Defense against chokes

(1-hand chokes, 2-hand chokes, variations from the front, from behind and back against the wall)
a) Trapping/control of attacker’s hand/wrist/arm, wristlocks, strikes and takedowns
b) Protection against punches that may accompany the 1-hand grab

6) Defenses/disarms against a knife

(knife held to the throat, slashing to the face or neck, thrusting attack to the torso)
a) Trapping/control of attacker’s knife/hand/wrist/arm
b) Disarm techniques and takedowns

7) Defenses/disarms against a gun

(aimed at your head from the front [with or without accompanying lapel grab], aimed at your head from the side, aimed at your rear [head, back])
a) Trapping/control of attacker’s gun/hand/wrist/arm
b) Disarm techniques and takedowns
